In the face of intensified opposition post the reinstatement and expansion of the global gag rule, also known as the Mexican policy, RHNK, in collaboration with fellow civil society organizations, crafted robust strategies to counter adversities.
Strategic Counteraction:
- Advocacy and Communications Excellence: Developed a responsive and progressive advocacy and communications strategy tailored to effectively address opposition concerns.
- Key Messaging and Neutralization: Implemented monitoring mechanisms with key messages for dissemination, countering and neutralizing interference and misinformation propagated by opposition groups. Ensuring the right to access safe, legal, and dignified abortion remains protected.
- Opposition Monitoring and Safeguarding: Formulated an opposition monitoring strategy, safeguarding SRHR providers and advocates. Ensuring a rapid response to potential security threats, reinforcing the protection of those championing reproductive health rights.
- Strategic Team Deployment: Established an SRHR strategic team led by the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). This immediate response proved instrumental during the ban on Marie Stopes Kenya, fostering close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and key stakeholders to lift the ban on safe and legal abortion services.
- Interactive Platforms: Engaging on a dedicated WhatsApp platform, the Youth Network fosters weekly peer-to-peer SRHR discussions, enriching knowledge and connectivity.
- Collective Action: Collaborated in initiatives alongside women, girls, human rights defenders, organizations, and allies in the sexual and reproductive health sector. Under the umbrella Team Life, a petition was presented to dismantle misleading billboards. Urging the Nairobi governor's support to secure women and girls' rights to access sexual and reproductive health information and services, aligning with the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
